Work experience
Before joining the Centre, Sharon was a Research Officer at Barnardo’s. Her activities there included being a Principal Investigator in the Process Review of the Child Protection Reform Programme, for the Scottish Executive. She also did research on the rights of looked after children and the role of peer support in promoting well-being in schools.
Sharon has also worked at the Scottish Executive, both in the Social Work Services Inspectorate and the Social Inclusion Division as a Senior researcher. In the former, she was a member of the audit and review of child protection in Scotland team producing the literature review for the audit and managing a number of research projects.
Sharon obtained a doctorate from the University of Edinburgh in 1998.
Since joining the Centre, Sharon has undertaken a review of child death and significant child abuse cases in Scotland. She is also leading on a research project on resilience in collaboration with the University of Dundee and Barnardo’s and contributes to other Centre research.
